JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Seventh District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg announced on Wednesday he will seek a eighth term in Congress in 2022.
How his district will look after the 2022 election has not been determined yet. The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission is in the final stages of map adoption. They have posted various map proposals on line and are accepting public comments. Their final vote is scheduled for December 30.
Walberg has defeated Democratic challenger Gretchen Driskell three straight times.
In his re-election announcement on Wednesday, Walberg said, “With the disastrous Biden Administration and radical liberals attempting to turn America into a politically correct socialist regime, I am more committed than ever to fight for the conservative principles that make our country strong. I will work to rebuild our economy, secure the border, support our troops, oppose tax increases, defend the Constitution, and continue serving as an effective representative who achieves results.”
If he is re-elected next year, Walberg maybe a part of the majority party when the 118th Congress convenes in January of 2023. Republicans only have to flip five seats next November to gain control of the U.S. House.
