KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The investigation continues into why a man opened fire and injured three passengers inside a Kalamazoo metro bus Saturday morning, before he was shot and killed by police
The shooter, identified as 54-year-old Anthony Oliver, boarded a bus at the Kalamazoo Transportation Center and started shooting at passengers.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley says Oliver then went into the Kalamazoo Transportation Center. Coakley says he did not shoot inside, but when he came out, officers shot him.
Oliver was taken to the hospital and later died.
Coakley said the three victims who were shot have non-life threatening injuries.
Michigan State Police is investigating the shooting. Lt. DuWayne Robinson said there was a confrontation between Oliver and officers before they shot him, but no other details were released as of Sunday
Oliver’s nephew Theo Morton told WWMT-TV that he had been seeking help for mental health issues.
“I just give him a ride to the doctor last week where he was going to a get refill on his medication,” Morton wrote in a Facebook message to News Channel 3. “I’m just sad the last time [I] seen him when I drop him off at the doctor office and told him I love him and now he’s gone. I do feel sorry for the people involved in this situation. I’m praying for their family also.”
