LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Whitmer has announced that she has dismissed the federal lawsuit against Enbridge in connection with Pipeline #5.
Whitmer stated in a release Tuesday that the state has decided that Michigan’s courts should have the final say in regards to the case, which seeks to stop Enbridge from pumping oil and gas through the line, which runs beneath the Straits of Mackinac.
Whitmer’s decision will allow State Attorney General Dana Nessel’s lawsuit to move forward in state court.
The State Department of Natural Resources, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, and the National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes Regional Center all applauded Whitmer’s announcement.
Enbridge officials issued a statement that it is pleased by Michigan’s decision to not pursue the federal lawsuit, but it will continue to assert that the federal government has jurisdiction over Line #5.
