DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Boston Bruins earned a second straight win to start the new year after topping the Red Wings 5-1 in Detroit Sunday.
Tyler Bertuzzi opened the scoring with his 13th goal of the season to give the Red Wings a first period lead.
Boston responded with Patrice Bergeron’s 11th of the year to tie the game at one. Erik Haula added a goal in the middle frame. Charlie McAvoy, Trent Frederic, and Tomas Nosek put the game away with goals in the third. Jeremy Swayman stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in the win.
The Red Wings have now dropped back-to-back games as the Bruins moved past them in the standings by a point.
Boston is now fourth in the Atlantic Division.
