UPDATE: Michigan State Police have identified the accident victim as 71-year-old William Pinson of Battle Creek. The hit and run driver and vehicle still have not been located.
GALESBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 71-year-old Battle Creek man has died after a hit-and-run accident on eastbound Interstate 94 near Galesburg last night.
Michigan State Police were called to eastbound I-94 near mile marker 87 in Charleston Township around 8:00 p.m. They say the man was outside of his 2016 black Ford pick-up truck, which he had pulled over due to unknown issues, when his vehicle was side-swiped at a high rate of speed by another vehicle. The impact of the collision pushed the pickup into the driver causing fatal injuries.
There is no information about the description of the second vehicle involved or its driver as the person responsible for this crash failed to stop at the scene.
Authorities are actively searching the area for the second vehicle and its driver. The vehicle should have black paint transfer and damage to either the front or front passenger side.

The eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed for about two-and-a-half hours.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and Pride EMS.
The name of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
