QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Community Schools Board of Education approved a bid of just over $2.9 million from Paul Bengel Company of Jackson on Monday night for upgrades later this year to the Quincy Middle School HVAC system, along with the indoor air quality upgrades at Jennings Elementary, the Middle School and the High School.
The action is pending approval by the State of Michigan of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds, otherwise known as ESSER funds.
According to a letter to the board by Mende Engineering Solutions, two bid proposals were submitted. They said Bengel submitted their proposal on the entire project as required but the other bidder only submitted for work on the roof and did not complete the bid proposal form as required.
The letter from Mende went on to say that in addition to a new roof, the work at the Middle School provides new HVAC equipment and outdoor air to all the classrooms.
It states, “The entire campus will have all occupied spaces treated with bi-polar ionization units to minimize the spread of airborne allergens and viruses. In addition to temperature controls for the new work, the bid proposal also includes provisions to streamline some of the existing temperature controls that were part of previous projects.”
The Paul Bengel Company has previously done other work for the district.
Work on the Middle School roof and HVAC upgrades is scheduled to take place after school is dismissed for the summer.
