BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinals girls softball team split their season opening doubleheader at Gull Lake on Tuesday afternoon.
Coldwater defeated Gull Lake 5-3 in the first game before the Blue Devils came back to win the nightcap 8-7.
Coldwater’s Alexis Bills was the winning pitcher in the first game as she went the distance and struck out six batters.
Kenzie Scheid and Bills both had two hits in the opener.
Brianna Omo had three hits including two doubles in the nightcap.
Bronson swept Springport by scores of 14-4 and 8-2 in their opening Big 8 Conference doubleheader.
Addison Harris and Lynsey Smith were the winning pitchers for Bronson.
Brealyn Lasky had three doubles in the first game. Kaylee Wilber also had three hits in the opener.
Kailynne Scare had two doubles in the second game.
Bronson Coach Becky Gray said, “I felt we came out and hit the ball well tonight, much better than our first game. We struggled at times defensively, but overall it was a good day.”
The Vikings are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 Conference
