KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — State Representative Julie Rogers is partnering up with environmental leaders on Friday, April 22, to focus in on Earth Day clean up efforts in Kalamazoo city.
The meeting will begin wit a press conference 9:45 a.m. in front of the 60th District Service Office at 315 North Burdick Street. Afterwards, volunteers will help clean up downtown Kalamazoo until 11:30 a.m.
Joining Rogers in the special event include Derrell Slaughter of the Natural Resource Defense Council and appointed member of the Council on Climate Solutions, Deidre Courtney, a PhD Candidate with Western Michigan University and West Michigan Environmental Action Council, and David Behnke from the Greater Jackson Habitat for Humanity.
“As a lifelong environmentalist, I am pleased to partner with Michigan environmental leaders on Earth Day,” said Rogers. “While I am proud of the work that has been done in the legislature to protect our natural resources in Kalamazoo and throughout Michigan, there is always more that can be done to achieve transformative change. Many Michigan communities will be taking bold action on Earth Day to bring necessary change to the Great Lakes State, and our downtown Kalamazoo clean-up is another way community members can get involved.”
First recognized in 1970, Earth Day is observed in around 190 countries and mobilizes one billion people and close to 100,000 organizations.
