CONSTANTINE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The names of two children who died in a fire on Monday, April 25, in St. Joseph County have been released.
WWMT-Newschannel 3 reporting that the names were provided by their mother, Alezandria Lurye.
4-year-old Liam Lurye and 3-year-old Lillianna Lurye-Gipson died after a fire started in their home early Monday morning.
Multiple agencies responded to the fire at what police are saying was a “makeshift” home on Timm Road that was already engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
The mother had gotten her 1-year-old out of the house and received several burns while trying to save the other two children, according to police.
Michigan State Police reporting that the fire appears to have started from a faulty exhaust tube from a wood-burning stove.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
