HOUSTON, TX (WKZO-AM/FM) – Detroit could only muster two hits against Houston starter Luis Garcia as the Astros edged the visiting Tigers 3-2 in the second game of a four-game series at Minute Maid Park.
In seven innings of work, Garcia gave up singles to Javier Baez and Harold Castro, walked 2, and struck out 9. Phil Maton and Rafael Montero each threw an inning of hitless ball to close it out, with Montero picking up the save.
Detroit starter Beau Briske lasted five innings and gave up all three Houston runs in the second, on a Chas McCormick 2-run homer and a solo shot from Martin Maldonado. Briske walked 3 and struck out 3.
The four-game series continues Saturday afternoon. The Tigers’ Eduardo Rodriguez will face Framber Valdez.
