MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 34-year-old Battle Creek woman was killed Tuesday morning in a two vehicle crash in the area of Michigan Avenue near 15 Mile Road.
The crash forced Michigan Avenue between 13 and 15 Mile Roads to be shut down for almost three hours.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at about 6:10 a.m..
Through an initial investigation, it was determined a passenger vehicle, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Battle Creek was heading west on Michigan Avenue and was trying to pass another westbound vehicle. The overtaking vehicle was not able to complete the pass before striking a full size pickup truck, being driven by a 62-year-old man from Battle Creek, that was heading east. The unidentified woman was pronounced deceased on scene. The man in the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for injuries.
The names of the persons involved have not been released by the Sheriff’s Office.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Marshall Township Fire, Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority and the Calhoun County Road Department.
It was the third serious crash in about 13 hours in Calhoun County which left two persons dead and five others injured.
