COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County 911 Communications Board recommended to the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday that a bill for over $4,900 for the moving of a ham radio club antenna as part of the Enhanced 911 Project be approved.
The antenna was moved to the new jail tower from the Central Dispatch building just west of Coldwater by J and K Communications.
Sheriff John Pollack indicated there was some confusion about the bill which was initially sent by J and K to the ham radio club.
The club sent the bill to Pollack who then turned it over to the county for payment and he said it was part of the 911 Project.
During severe weather, the amateur ham radio club provides weather spotters and information to the emergency operations center.
Pollack says the club provides a critical service in an emergency situation and they serve as a backup in case the county’s power goes down.
