COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Social District in Coldwater will be expanded to seven days after the Coldwater City Council approved a request from Main Street Director and Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden on Monday night.
The change came after a review of the Social District’s first year of operation. The resolution passed by the Council stated there were no public health or safety issues during that time.
Tappenden said going to seven days will make things less complicated.
Council Member Emily Rissman cast the only no vote.
A state law that went into effect on July 1, 2020 allows local governmental units to designate a Social District and Commons Areas within its jurisdiction.
The social district in Coldwater stretches along U.S. 12 between Jackson and Hudson Streets and mostly between Harrison and Pearl Street.
Businesses who qualify may sell alcoholic drinks on their licensed premises to customers who may then consume the drink within the Commons Area of the Social District. But you can not take a drink you bought in one bar to another.
The Social District hours of operation will be daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m..
