COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals advanced in the MHSAA Division One girls softball district tournament they are hosting with a 1-0 victory over Portage Central on Tuesday at the Rotary Softball Complex.
The only run of the game came in the last of the fourth when Brooklyn Kerry singled with two outs and Kenzie Scheid slid safely around the tag at home plate.
Scheid, Alexis Bills, and Kerry had three straight hits in the fourth which led to the Coldwater run.
Bills was the winning pitcher as she tossed a five hit shutout.
Postage Central pitcher Donyale Hall-Curnette struck out 11.
The Cardinals are now 22-8. They will face Battle Creek Lakeview in the district semifinals on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m..
