BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – It’s a loss that will sting for awhile.
The Union City Chargers were within one strike of advancing to a regional championship game on Thursday afternoon.
Instead, their season came to a sudden and heartbreaking end as the Hudson Tigers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Chargers in a MHSAA Division Three regional semifinal baseball game at Bronson.
Rain forced a suspension of the game Wednesday night with Union City leading 4-0 in the middle of the fourth.
The overnight suspension of play gave Hudson a chance to regroup. They scored two runs in the last of the sixth to cut the Charger lead to 4-2.
That set up a dramatic bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Kannon Marry delivered a three run bases clearing double on a full count pitch to win the game for Hudson.
Kyle Johnson pitched the first three innings for Union City before the rain stopped play on Wednesday. He had two of the five Union City hits. Johnson and Tyson Wagley both drove in two runs.
Union City finished their season with a record of 20-9.
