HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – A lightening strike is the possible cause of a fire that destroyed the Park Township Community Building, with Ottawa County Fair officials saying the building is not safe to be near.
Park Township Fire Department Chief Scott Gamby says all three levels of the building were on fire when crews arrived around 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Their firefighting work was delayed because of heavy lightening in the area.
The building was empty when the fire began and no one was hurt.
In a post on their Facebook page, Ottawa County Fair officials said they will adjust area that previously included the Community Stage attached to the Community Building to allow for all events to continue.
The carnival company Elliott Amusement did arrive at the fairgrounds Saturday night and will be setting up Sunday and Monday, with rides starting as planned on Tuesday.
The fair says many vendors also arrived Saturday and more will be arriving through Monday.
The Ottawa County Fair officially runs July 25-30 at the fairgrounds on Ottawa Beach Road.
