BUTLER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The helmet was passed this past Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway as money was raised to help out injured driver Jimmy “Bulldog” McCune of Toledo.
McCune’s feet and legs were badly burned in a freak accident when a fuel line broke in his sprint car after a qualification run on July 23 at Butler.
He had to have skin grafts performed last Thursday and continues to recover at the University of Michigan burn center in Ann Arbor.
Nearly $3,000 was raised from the helmet pass on Saturday.
According to a post on the Butler Motor Speedway Facebook page, the $3,000 was matched by NEFCO to make a combined total of $6,000.
The owners of Butler Motor Speedway also decided to donate their half of the 50/50 to McCune’s family which equaled $697.
