COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s been almost one year since a long time member of the Branch County Sheriff’s Department passed away after contracting COVID-19.
To honor the memory of Corrections Officer Kevin Kokinis, a rolling tribute called “Beyond the Call of Duty, The End of Watch Ride to Remember” will make a stop at the Branch County Sheriff’s Office this Wednesday at 11:30 a.m..
The End of Watch Ride to Remember is a group of motorcycle riders from the state of Washington escorting a 40 foot trailer across the country to honor fallen officers from the prior year.
The display travels over 22,000 miles across America. Not only does it honor the fallen, they honor the families along with the officers left behind to pick up the pieces.
The organizations’ event name is based on an officer’s “End of Watch”. An End of Watch Call or Last Radio Call is a ceremony in which a police dispatcher issues a final call to a fallen officer over the radio, followed by silence. All officers in that department hear the call, and observe the silence, remembering their fallen brother or sister.
Last year, the End of Watch Ride honored 339 fallen officers across the country. This year, 600 officers lost their lives while serving their community.

Kokinis spent his entire 22 year career at the Branch County Sheriff’s Department in the corrections division.
