Margo Lee Knapp, 71, of Tekonsha, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 of aplastic anemia and underlying health issues at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Tekonsha, with Pastor Jennifer Fair of the Tekonsha Union Church UCC officiating. A luncheon will follow, with interment afterward at West Clarendon Cemetery on M-60. A visitation of family and friends will be held prior to the service, from 1:00-4:00 on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the First Baptist Church. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation.
Margo was born August 12, 1950 in Marshall, Michigan to John Ray and Rosemary (Bugden) Knapp. She graduated in 1968 from Marshall High School and went on to attend Western Michigan University, where she earned a B.A. in home economics and minored in communications. Growing up, Margo was in 4-H for 10 years and later received the 4-H alumnus award.
While living in Kalamazoo, she worked at Steketee’s and managed the lower level. Later, she was one of Calhoun County’s DHIA milk testers for many years. She then moved to Texas, where she worked for Tom Thumb Page grocery store as a deli manager. She was named deli manager of the year for 1987. It was there she learned to decorate cakes.
In 1988 Margo moved home to farm the Knapp Centennial Farm. In 1995, she started M & M Kakes and Katering and closed it in 2020. She did box lunches, catering and wedding and occasion cakes.
Margo was involved in the Tekonsha Lions Club. She held many offices and was recipient the Melvin Jones award. She enjoyed playing Mahjong at the Marshall Library.
Margo is survived by her sister, Merrie Knapp, of Tekonsha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray (1988) and Rosemary (2020) Knapp; a brother, Russell Ray Knapp (1974) and infant twin sisters, Marilyn and Marlene Knapp (1954).
