COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has announced they are now offering the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.
Appointments can be made at www.bhsj.org/scheduling or by calling Your Local Health Department office and pressing option 7.
Medical Director Doctor Karen Luparello says, “Novavax is approved for those age 18 and over. It is not for use as a booster dose, so a person wanting NOVAVAX would receive 2 injections with 3-8 weeks between doses. Novavax contains harmless pieces of spike proteins of the virus that causes COVID-19. The vaccine also contains fats, salts, sugar, acid, and adjuvant as a carrier. This type of technology has been used to create vaccines for a long time, and is something that some may feel more comfortable with rather than mRNA technology. We are pleased to offer our residents choices related to COVID-19 vaccination.”
Health Officer Rebecca Burns adds, “The agency encourages residents to stay up to date or consider beginning a vaccination series, as COVID-19 vaccines have been proven to reduce severe illness and death. We hope everyone will talk with their provider, pharmacist, or local health department office, about vaccination for COVID-19.”
