BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The three counties served by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency are currently at the medium risk level for the spread of COVID-19 according to information released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control.
They are among the 57 Michigan counties at the medium or middle level. Calhoun County is included in that group.
The C.D.C. says there are 17 counties at the low level while nine counties in Michigan are at high risk.
The counties considered to be at the high risk level are Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb, Mason, Crawford, Chippewa, Luce, Delta and Ontonagon.
Community Health Agency Personal Health and Disease Prevention Director Kali Nichols reported to the Board of Health on Thursday that COVID-19 operational guidance for K-12 Schools has been updated and can be found on the CDC website.
She says the recommendation to quarantine has been removed except in high-risk congregate settings.
The protocols now call for isolation for at least five days followed by five days of masking for confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Nichols added a test-based strategy can be used to potentially shorten post-isolation mask use.
More information can be found at the agency’s web site which is www.bhsj.org.
