HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – Hastings demonstrated why they are favored to win the Interstate 8 football title this season, as they amassed 380 rushing yards while holding Coldwater to just 88 yards on the ground in the Saxons’ 46-0 shutout win over the visiting Cardinals.
Hastings led 24-0 after the first quarter and 39-0 at halftime, which led to the entire second half being played under a running clock.
Jayden Kegler led Coldwater with 71 rushing yards on 14 carries, while Zach Coffing gained 17 net yards on his 14 carries. Coffing was 12-of-21 passing for 104 yards and an interception. Donte Work had five catches for 41 yards and also led the defense with 7 tackles.
With the win, Hastings improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8, sharing the conference lead with Marshall. The Cardinals dropped to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the Interstate 8, and will seek their first win next Friday at home against Lumen Christi.
