MENDON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — St. Joseph County deputies arrested a man following an hours long standoff Saturday night, September 17 in Mendon.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says the incident happened when deputies responded to a call for domestic violence around 9 p.m. at a home near Mendon Elementary School.
As they were trying to interview the suspect, the man began to reach for a safe in the foyer of his home. Deputies cleared the home minutes before the suspect started shooting at them.
Residents were asked to lock down their homes and avoid the area.
The suspect is now in custody, and is being treated for a previous injury according to police.
