JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team remains in first place in the Interstate 8 Conference after a 2-1 come from behind victory at Jackson Northwest Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first half, Northwest got the opening goal of the game less than five minutes into the second half.
The Cardinals responded with 21:20 to play in the game on a goal from Ezaldeen Ahmed, off a rebound from a save by the Northwest goalkeeper.
Arif Ahmed got the winning goal with 17:33 on a direct kick from 20 yards out, following a foul by the Mounties.
Franky Ramos had five saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Northwest 15-7, with 12 of the Cardinals shots coming in the second half.
The win improves Coldwater to 7-4-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the Interstate 8 Conference, a half game ahead of Parma Western and one game ahead of Marshall.
The Cardinals play at Harper Creek in varsity only action Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
The Coldwater JV team beat Jackson Northwest, with goals from Liam Clark, Yahya Umari, Umari Umari, and Niko Downs. Hunter Barnett made four saves in goal.
