COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – El Taco Loco Mexican Taqueria LLC has received an $18,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Match on Main program.
The grant was presented to El Taco Loco owner Danielle Lopez by the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority, who is responsible for receiving and disbursing the funds to the grant recipient on behalf of the M.E.D.C..
The funds will help cover the cost of architectural renderings for a potential restaurant expansion and apartment project.
“Match on Main” is a reimbursement grant program that serves as a tool to support new or expanding place-based businesses.
Coldwater Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden told the Downtown Development Authority on Wednesday the next round of grants is starting up.
As part of the program, the DDA administered a local application process before selecting projects to submit to M.E.D.C. for consideration for funding.
The M.E.D.C. approved 20 projects throughout the state in April including the El Taco Loco’s project.
Match on Main is only available to Main Street communities, and communities who have achieved certification through the M.E.D.C.’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program.
The DDA was also a recipient of a $35,000 Match on Main COVID-19 Response Program grant in 2020. Those funds were allocated to nine downtown businesses.
