UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers won their sixth straight game and kept possession of the Shield for the next year as they defeated the Bronson Vikings 48-6 on Friday night at Alumni Field.
The Chargers recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff which seemed to set the tone during Union City’s Homecoming game.
Riley Laird scored three touchdowns while Elijah Payne threw TD passes of 25 yards to Jeremiah Zehr and 13 yards to Rick Martin. Owen Jackson and Dylon McDonald added rushing touchdowns.
The lone Bronson touchdown came on a 13 yard pass from Kam Brackett to Drew Norton.
But the Vikings could not overcome seven turnovers while the Chargers did not commit a turnover.
Union City is 6-0 in the Big Eight and 6-1 overall. They need to win next week at Springport to claim the outright conference championship.
Bronson drops to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the Big 8.
