GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – With Democratic incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Republican challenger Tudor Dixon set to face each other in the first of two debates Thursday evening, new polls show the races for Governor and other statewide offices are tightening.
Whitmer enjoyed a bump in polling last month which gave her a 16 point lead but the latest poll from EPIC-MRA shows her lead is down to 11 points, 49-38 percent with nine percent undecided.
Whitmer’s 11 point lead is the same as the August poll.
No third party candidate got more than three percent in the latest polling of 600 persons which was conducted between October 6 and 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percent.
WOOD-TV will host Thursday’s debate which will air on TV and radio stations throughout Michigan.
Meanwhile, the EPIC-MRA polls shows the race for the Attorney General’s office is a statistical dead heat.
Incumbent Democrat Dana Nessel’s lead over Republican challenger Matthew DePerno is down from nine percent last month to four percent, 43 to 39 percent with 14 percent undecided.
In another tightening race, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has seen a 14 point lead shrink to ten points over Republican challenger Kristina Karamo 47-37 percent with 12 percent undecided.
