READING, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers football team has some company when it comes to winning Big 8 Conference championships in 2022.
The Union City girls wrapped up the Big 8 Conference cross country championship on Tuesday afternoon in Reading as they won the final Conference Jamboree of the season.
The Chargers were first in the girls meet with 38 points followed by Concord with 64 points, Quincy with 76 points and Bronson was fourth with 85 points.
Bronson’s Ashlynn Harris won the girls race in a time of 21:37.68. Lydia Wells was 14th.
Five Union City runners finished in the top 12 led by Murcie Wallen who was fourth. Skyler Fraley was fifth, Alissa Skirka was eighth, Kyla Burdick was 11th and Elizabeth Arlt was 12th.
Quincy was led by Sadie Miller who was seventh. Charlotte Crabbs was tenth while Brookelyn Parker was 16th.
Jonesville wrapped up the boys conference championship as they finished ahead of Concord in Tuesday’s meet, 48-68. Bronson was third while Union City was fourth. Quincy did not have enough runners for a team score.
Bronson’s Aden Hathaway was fourth while Tyler Wilber was 15th and Ashton Wells was 16th. Union City’s Ben Gautsche and Jason Shoop were fifth and sixth respectively. Quincy was led by Jacob and Rhett Reif who finished 10th and 11th.
