UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – It was about a year ago that Branch County Sheriff John Pollack said he was confident the community will make the necessary donations to fund his proposal to purchase a drone for his department.
This past Tuesday, Pollack was presented with the final check for the Sheriff’s Office Drone project.
Union City Rotary Club President Gerry Snyder presented Pollack with a $7,500 check during the club’s meeting at the Bucket Restaurant.
Pollack says drones are already used by the Michigan State Police and other departments across the U.S..
He told the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club last year the drone including software that has a $26,000 price tag can be very valuable to use while investigating traffic accidents to detail the crash scene.
In addition, the drone can be used for search and rescue operations and hostage situations.
The Branch County Community Foundation has been the holding agency for individual and group donations.
