COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater area man was formally charged on Tuesday during an arraignment in Branch County District Court with Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Felony Firearm, and Domestic Violence third offense.
49-year-old Richard Stolte was charged by Branch County Prosecutors following an alleged incident on or about October 12, 2022.
Prosecutors say Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for a woman who suffered significant injuries after being shot with pellets from an air rifle.
Branch County court document say she was shot twice during a domestic dispute.
The woman was later taken to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo where doctors determined that the pellet pierced her heart in multiple places which caused her lungs to fill up with blood.
At last report, she is continuing to receive treatment for her injuries.
Stolte denied the entire incident when he was interviewed by investigators and claimed he had no contact with the alleged victim on the date of the incident. The State Police are still investigating.
Bond during Tuesday’s arraignment was set at $250,000 and a not guilty plea was entered on Stolte’s behalf.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for November 3 with a preliminary exam on November 8.
