KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Several upgraded school buses are on their way to several school districts in West Michigan.
The Biden Administration is set to give out roughly $1 billion dollars in grants to purchase 2,500 ‘clean’ school buses across the nation under a new federal program.
According to the White House, school districts identified as priority areas serving low-income, rural or tribal students make up 99% of the projects that were selected.
The EPA plans to select more winners to reach the full $965 million in grant money award to more school districts across the nation.
Award winners in West Michigan:
Hopkins Public Schools (Allegan County): 3 electric buses – total awarded: $1,185,000
Hartford Public Schools (Van Buren County): 4 electric buses – total awarded: $1,580,000
Homer Community School District (Calhoun County): 7 electric buses – total awarded: $2,765,000
Cassopolis Public Schools (Cass County): 3 electric buses – total awarded: $1,185,000
This totals 17 electric buses, with the total awarded $6,715,000 million dollars.
