Treva Pauline Swartout, 92, of Coldwater, formerly of Union City, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Drews Place in Coldwater, under the care of Southern Care Hospice.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, with Pastor Jeff Bream from Northview Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
A luncheon will follow at the United Methodist Church in Union City.
Visitation will be held at Lighthouse just prior to the funeral, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
Treva was born July 5, 1930 in Coldwater, Michigan to Lee and Violet (Pio) Swartout. She grew up in Union City and graduated from Union City High School in 1949. She was employed for 46 years, from 1950-1996 by Kellogg’s in Battle Creek. She had lived in Union City all her life.
Treva attended Northview Christian Church in Coldwater and in previous years she had attended the Central Christian Church in Battle Creek, Union City United Methodist Church and Coldwater Church of Christ. She was a member of the 25-Year Club at Kellogg’s, liked doing oil painting, enjoyed music and playing multiple instruments, including accordion and the piano, which she played at Drews. Treva was a caring, thoughtful and generous person. She was also fun-loving, quite humorous, and had a good spirit. People enjoyed her company.
Treva is survived by her guardian and niece, Lynnette Wintersteen of Coldwater and her brother-in-law, Leslie Knapp of Coldwater, along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Lee C. Swartout, Paul Swartout, Betty Kelley and Rachel H. Knapp; and the love of her life, her 27-year companion, Russell Joslyn, who preceded her in death in 1991.
