COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal girls basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 35-15 win against Gull Lake at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium. The Lady Cards led 9-1 after the first quarter and held a 21-5 halftime advantage. Coldwater held Gull Lake to 12.5% shooting while forcing 28 Blue Devil turnovers.
Elli Anderson led a balanced attack with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks; Mya Porter added 6 points, 2 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals; Elli Foley had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals; and Rylie VanAken had 5 points and 4 steals.
Coldwater will host longtime rival Sturgis Tuesday as part of a tripleheader with the JV and varsity boys basketball teams.

Gull Lake won the JV game 37-11. Ayla McCowan had a team-high 4 points for the JV Lady Cards, who fell to 0-2.
Elsewhere, Bronson opened its season with a dominating 72-21 win at Centreville.
Union City fell to 0-2 with a 47-34 loss at Hillsdale. Jordan Chard had 12 points to pace the Chargers.
And Tekonsha dropped to 0-2 with a 35-14 loss to visiting Battle Creek St. Philip.
