SPRINGFIELD, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy is being praised for saving the life of a 69-year-old man on Tuesday morning in Springfield after the man walked away from a local assisted living facility.
The Sheriff’s Department says the Deputy Maccah Mcghee was patrolling in the area of Begg Park in the 500 block of Military Street at about 9:00 a.m. when she saw a man lying on the ground in the park.
The man was not dressed for the temperatures. He was wearing only a short-sleeve shirt, pajama pants, and one shoe.
He was showing initial signs of hypothermia and was in critical need of help. Mcghee wrapped the man in a rescue blanket and began providing medical assistance until paramedics from Life Care Ambulance arrived.
The Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Mcghee’s awareness of her surroundings and knowing how to assist someone in distress was crucial in the man’s rescue and survival.
