COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams went 3-for-3 against the Sturgis Trojans on Parents Night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Cardinal boys opened the season with a 45-33 win against the Trojans. Coldwater led 17-4 after the first quarter and 23-12 at halftime. Zach Coffing had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds along with 4 assists and 2 steals, while Elijah Sloan had 9 points on three triples. Donte Work added 8 points and 8 boards, and Ayden Dirschell had 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals.

The Lady Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the season as they roared past Sturgis 55-21, outscoring the Trojans 19-2 in the first quarter and 16-2 in the third. Coldwater had 27 total steals as they forced 32 Sturgis turnovers. Coley Burkhardt had a game-high 21 points and 8 rebounds for the Cardinals, while Elli Foley and Rylie Van Aken had 9 points apiece.

Coldwater started the night with a 55-36 win against Sturgis in the JV boys game. Austin Downs led the Cardinals with 16 points, and Jackson Reilly added 12.
