BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers won their Big 8 Conference boys basketball opening game of the season on Thursday night while the Bronson Vikings and the Quincy Orioles dropped home court conference games.
Concord only led 36-32 with just under six minutes to play but they then outscored the Vikings 23-10 as Bronson dropped their conference opener and fell to 1-2 overall.
Aden Hathaway led Bronson with 17 points while Saylor Wotta added 10 points.
Meanwhile, the Quincy Orioles could not overcome a double digit halftime deficit as they lost to Big 8 rival Reading 46-39.
The Rangers led throughout the contest as they had leads of 22-10 at halftime and 31-18 after three quarters.
Brandon Minor had a double-double for the Orioles with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Quincy won the J.V. game 36-22.
In boys underclassmen basketball, the Coldwater J.V. team lost to Marshall 59-47. Bennett McDonald led Coldwater with 12 points while Jackson Reilly had 10 points and nine rebounds. The J.V. Cards are now 2-1.
The Coldwater freshman boys basketball team lost to Marshall 49-30 Thursday night. Owen Tappenden had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Sebastian Ocampo had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. The Cardinals drop to 2-1 on the season.
