BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A fire which broke out at a Batavia Township residence late Tuesday night caused over $100,000 worth of damage to three properties.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says Branch County Central Dispatch notified the Bronson firefighters of a fire in an attached garage at 147 West Garfield Road just before 11:00 p.m..
Mutual aid was immediately requested from Coldwater for an engine. Fire crews arrived to find flames coming through the roof of the garage and heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the single-story ranch house.
Lakeland and Union City fire departments were dispatched for one tanker each.
Wilber reports two neighboring houses were damaged by the intense heat of the blaze.
Crews were on scene for three-and-a-half hours. Lifecare ambulance and Bronson Fire Department personnel treated a neighbor for smoke inhalation.
No injuries were reported among the fire department personal.
According to Wilber, the house and garage where the fire started suffered an estimated $90,000 in damage.
Damage to the neighboring houses is estimated at $15,000 and $3,500. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
