BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Bronson, Union City and Quincy all recorded Big 8 Conference wrestling wins on the opening night of conference matches.
Bronson scored a pair of wins on Wednesday night as they defeated Reading 53-24 and Sand Creek 72-0.
The meet was held in honor of former Bronson wrestler Billy Balowski. The 2018 Bronson High School graduate lost his life in a Girard Township traffic accident last June. T-shirts that said “Brighten the World with a B.B. Smile” were sold for Wednesday night’s meet.
Earning two wins for the Vikings on Wednesday were Owen Kimmons at 120, Perry Lake at 126, Layne Knisely at 138, Gabriel Erwin at 144, Drew Seekman at 150, Collin York at 157, Carson Norton at 165, Jacob Britten at 175, Jacob Dixon at 190 and Matthew Blankenship at 215.
Union City won at Springport 46-24. Scoring wins for the Chargers were Logan Mears at 106, Mason Hawthorne at 113, Landyn Crance at 132, Aidan Taylor at 138, Montana Connell at 144, Colton Russell at 150, Maddox Miller at 165 and Hunter Gillies at 285.
Quincy dominated Concord as the Orioles scored a 66-4 victory. The Orioles got wins in 11 matches. Earning victories for Quincy were Chayse Jensen at 106, Caleb Rose at 120, Karter Pierce at 126, Kaleb Handy at 132, Jacob Reif at 138, Michael Daniels at 157, Zach Hollingsworth at 165, Gavin Peet at 175, Davin George at 190, Hamilton Speith at 215 and Zach Abeg at 285.
