LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, or CVSA, are partnering to educate Michiganders during National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
According to a news release from MSP on Monday, January 9, members of Michigan State Police, CVSA, and Truckers Against Trafficking will be educating motorists about the signs of human trafficking.
According to state police, the education and awareness training will be especially important for individuals in positions likely to see trafficking take place, to include commercial motor vehicle drivers, public transportation companies, rest area attendants, and truck stop employees.
Troopers will be handing out National Human Trafficking Hotline window decals and wallet cards to motorists during traffic stops throughout the week, says MSP Lt. Chris Keller who also stressed that coordinators with Truckers Against Trafficking are also scheduled to host presentations about human trafficking during the week-long initiative.
Authorities are urging anyone who observes suspected human trafficking to call the National Human Trafficking Resources Center at 888-373-7888, or text “BeFree” to 223733.
