KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A 911 outage affected several West Michigan areas on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 10 for about an hour, according to dispatch stations.
Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Newaygo and Ottawa counties as well as the city of Grand Rapids all reported that their 911 lines were down around 4 p.m.
The culprit? A “technical issue” with an Upper Peninsula router according to the director of Grand Traverse County 911 Jason Torrey, who said the router there was isolated and apparently taken out of service.
Torrey went onto say that a 911 network provider in the U.P. is expected to review what happened and give details on how it’ll prevent a reoccurrence of a widespread outage.
