CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 28-year-old Marshall man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said he threatened to harm himself during a standoff which lasted for over two hours.
Sheriff’s deputies responded just after 11:00 p.m. Friday night to the 21000 block of Division Drive east of Marshall for a domestic situation.
Upon arrival, deputies were told by a woman at a neighbor’s home she was assaulted and strangled by her boyfriend who was inside their residence next door.
Attempts were made to have the suspect come out of the home, but the Sheriff’s Department said he refused.
The Calhoun County Special Response Team was activated due to the suspect’s violent history.
After refusing to cooperate. the Special Response Team went into to the upstairs of the home where they located him with a knife.
“Less Lethal” means were used to apprehend the suspect as a rubber impact round was fired and struck the suspect.
He was taken into custody, assessed by EMS, and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for Assault to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder by Strangulation and Resisting/Obstructing Law Enforcement.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police, Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police, Marshall Police, and the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority.
