LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The state House has followed the Senate in voting to move Michigan’s Democratic presidential primary to the fourth week of February.
The bill, however, does not have immediate effect and won’t become law until 90 days after the end of the year, meaning it wouldn’t take effect for 2024.
Republicans in the House and Senate voted against the bill, saying no Republican candidate will campaign in Michigan if the primary is moved before March 1.
Democrats say the change will make Michigan an active player in the run for the White House.
