GRAND RAPIDS MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The spotlight at this year’s Michigan International Auto Show in Grand Rapids was on electric vehicles, but that spotlight also brought some questions and concerns about the vehicles.
Some carmakers have gone all in on EVs, but experts say there are some issues that need to be addressed.
One of the primary ones is the fact that EVs do not pay any gas tax, and that will result in a reduction in the amount of money available to improve roads in the state.
Others include improving the range of electric vehicles, and charging and recycling of the batteries specific to EVs.
Another is putting out fires that could erupt in electric vehicles. It’s not that easy, according to Holland Fire Marshal Bret Groendyke.
The 25th Annual Michigan International Auto Show ran through this past Sunday, with attendance figures not immediately made available by organizers.
