UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Five new members of the Union City High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be formally inducted Friday night in between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games at McNett Fieldhouse.
Going into the Hall this year are Phil Martin (2003), Sean Flemming (1990), Mike Leson III (1987), MacKenzie Heator (2005) and Lance Fraley (1991).
Martin was a All-State running back for the Chargers. He set several Big 8 Conference football records and remained a Charger after his Union City days as he later played for Hillsdale College where he was the second all-time leading rusher with 3,395 yards. Martin also excelled in track and field where he was a state qualifier in the long jump and 110 meter hurdles.
Flemming won a state championship as a heavyweight wrestler. He also was an All-Conference football player and competed in track and field.
Leson was an All-State baseball player in his junior and senior years and was later a two year starter at the University of Toledo. He also earned letters in basketball and football.
Heator excelled in basketball, volleyball and track. She won Big 8 Conference co-MVP and MVP honors in girls basketball and was a co-MVP in girls volleyball. Heator was an All-Stater in the long jump and held the school record in that event. She later played volleyball at Olivet College.
Fraley took part in football, basketball and track. He won 10 conference titles in track during his career and was a three time All-Stater in the 400 meters.
