COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Officials for the Branch County United Way announced on Monday that the ninth annual Power of the Purse event which was held this weekend raised $67,500 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
The Power of the Purse funds the Branch County United Way effort to supply free books to area children from birth to age five. Almost 100 purses were donated to this year’s event which was once again divided into a lunch and dinner.
Numerous local businesses get involved as sponsors or have their employees serve as volunteers. Only woman are allowed to attend the event which is well attended every year.
Funds from this event stay local and go to cover the complete cost every years to provide free books to kids no matter their family income.
All additional funds raised goes towards assisting the 27 agencies supported by the Branch County United Way which assist with education, income and health in our area communities.
Two women from the community are honored every year during the Branch County United Way’s Power of the Purse event for their service and community involvement.
The honorees this year are Angie Marsh from Southern Marsh Realty who was selected as the Woman of the Year in Business and Marilyn Ostrander who was named the Woman of the Year in Service.
