BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Old Man Winter has been like Nuke LaLoosh in the 1980’s movie “Bull Durham” over the last couple of weeks. He continues to announce his presence with authority.
The third winter weather system to hit Branch County in 16 days led to slick driving conditions on Friday morning and the cancellation of classes by local school districts.
It followed the February 22 ice storm and last Friday’s snow storm which dumped nearly six inches of heavy, wet snow on the Coldwater area.
The latest storm moved into Branch County at about 10:00 p.m. Thursday night. Initial snowfall reports from the area indicate between three to five inches of snow fell.
Heavier amounts were reported to the north. Almost a foot of snow was reported in the Grand Rapids area.
All of the Branch County schools were forced to shut down on Friday morning because of the weather and the bad driving conditions.
That meant local districts were either close to or over the six days allowed for cancellation of classes in one school year by the State of Michigan.
Coldwater Community Schools have been forced to cancel classes on seven days so far during the 2022-2023 school year. Six of those cancellations have taken place since January 25.
