COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School Board of Education voted unanimously on Thursday night to offer the Superintendents position to Paul Flynn who is currently the Superintendent of Schools in Sandusky, Michigan.
A committee was appointed to begin contract negotiations with Flynn.
He was of the two finalists who were interviewed on Thursday night. The other finalist was Capac Superintendent Jeff Terpenning.
Flynn has served as Sandusky’s Superintendent since 2017. Previously, he was a principal at Yale High School for seven years.
He also served as a high school assistant principal for nine years and was a high school teacher for eight years.
Flynn said family was an important reason why he sought the Coldwater Superintendents job.
He also presented his plan for the first 90 days on the job.
Flynn holds an Educational Specialist’s Degree in Central Office Administration/Superintendent from Saginaw Valley State University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Speech from Michigan State University.
Flynn is expected to begin his new duties as Coldwater School Superintendent on July 1, 2023.
There were 11 candidates for the position which became open when current Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan announced she would be retiring as of June 30, 2023.
Flynn and Terpenning toured the district on Thursday before a second round of interviews were conducted at Lakeland Elementary School.
