COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City is looking to solve what they are calling a 70-year problem. For seven decades, the Village has formally asked for a speed reduction at the highly congested intersection of M-60 and North Broadway.
Union City Police and firefighters have responded to multiple fatal and personal injury accidents throughout the years. This includes three personal injury crashes in the first two months of this year.
The Union City Village Council has adopted a resolution asking the office of highway safety planning to consider a speed reduction in that area. The Village has done this numerous times over the years, but all of their requests have been denied by the State of Michigan.
But village officials say with the increasing number of businesses and traffic in the area, the problem is only getting worse thanks to what they are calling 70 years of futility.
A video has been posted on the Village’s Facebook page which shows how dangerous the intersection is. They are asking residents to share, like, and/or comment on the video to show their support for this initiative.
