UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City allowed only one hit during their baseball doubleheader against Waldron, defeating the Spartans 16-0 in four innings and 20-0 in three innings.
Owen Jackson and Hayden Danke combined on a one-hitter in the opener as the Chargers collected 14 hits. Tyler Wagley led the way with a double and a triple. Rick Austin and Phoenix Elkins teamed up to no-hit Waldron in the nightcap.
Union City improved to 10-3 and will host Homer on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Union City split their softball twinbill against Waldron, taking the opener 17-5 in five innings and dropping the nightcap 27-23.
Brooklyne Schley was the winning pitcher in game 1, and she helped her own cause with three singles while Mara Bailey had two singles and a double. The two teams combined for 50 runs, 46 hits, and 13 errors in the second game; Bailey had three singles and a double.
The Chargers will take a 4-10 record into their Tuesday doubleheader against Homer.
