COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Children’s Museum of Branch County opened its doors for the first time at its new location in downtown Coldwater on Wednesday morning.
After spending five years in the Fairfield Plaza, the museum has moved into the former Taylor’s Stationers building at 58 and 60 West Chicago.
The building is occupied for the first time since Taylor’s Stationers closed when owners Howard and Lola Taylor retired in 2016.
Coldwater Main Street Director and Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden said during Wednesday’s Downtown Development Authority meeting that most everything is in place.
She said public events will take place after the soft opening.
The museum will be opened Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m..
Admission is five dollars and three dollars with a Bridge Card. No food or drinks will be permitted in the museum.
New awnings and signs have been installed and nearly 7,000 square feet of interior space has been renovated in the building which is owned by the Downtown Development Authority.
Funds from a crowdfunding campaign and community support were used for numerous improvements including new bathrooms, a multipurpose room, new carpeting and new paint.
The museum’s web site has also been updated to show its new location.
Officials say the new location offers additional space for all of their events, activities, and classes. They plan to install many new exhibits over the next couple of months.
